Senior Naomi Lammers is a captain on the Sunlake Girls Lacrosse team and has been on the team for four years. Sunlake recently defeated Land O’ Lakes and won 11 to 5. Naomi felt that she did fairly well. Naomi states, “I scored a goal, so I’m pretty pleased about that.” Naomi felt that the team played very well, although there were some things that the team could work on. Naomi reflected on some of the challenges she faced during the game, especially when trying to make accurate passes while under pressure from the opposing team.
“I could definitely improve on my long passes,” Naomi said. “Passing under pressure is tricky! I made some pretty bad passes during the game, but I know that I can fix that with practice.”
While the team had many exciting moments during the game, Naomi said one of the best parts came near the end when players who usually don’t get as much time on the field were able to participate.
“The best part, in my opinion, was near the end when we were able to put players in that don’t normally play,” she said. “That included our new goalie.”
For Naomi, moments like that make such a supportive atmosphere for the team. Every player has worked hard throughout the season, and seeing everyone get an opportunity to play made the win even more meaningful, especially since it was against our rivals at Land O.
Looking back at the game, Naomi believes the team could have focused more on teamwork by running additional plays together.
“If I could have changed anything, I would have run more plays and two-mans,” she said. “We had many goals, but only two assists. Running more plays would help us work more as a team.”
Naomi felt that the team played very well and everyone was able to contribute to the win.
As the season continues, Naomi is focused on helping the team reach a higher goal. She believes the group has the talent and determination needed to go far.
“I really want to go to the district finals,” Naomi said. “I believe that is an entirely doable goal. Our team is full of skilled players and hard workers, and I definitely think we can achieve anything we set our minds to.” Naomi is excited for the rest of the season but sad that it is her last one with Sunlake Lacrosse.
