Sophomore quarterback Reese Gerhart number 9, helped lead her team to a strong performance against Wesley Chapel, stepping onto the field with confidence and a positive mindset. “Going into yesterday’s game, my mindset was definitely positive knowing we blew Wesley Chapel out last year when playing them,” Reese said.
Throughout the week, the team focused on preparing their offense for a different defensive look. “We prepared differently, making sure our offense was on top of their game and ready for the different defense we would face,” she explained. Before kickoff, the team had one clear goal. “The main goal before kickoff was just to go out, take care of what we needed to, and come out of the game with a win knowing everyone played 100%,” Reese said.
Although the team held a 12–0 lead in the first half, the game started slower than expected. She described a key moment that helped shift the momentum. “The turning point was when I threw a deep pass to my freshman receiver Annabelle for almost a touchdown. The team just needed a big play to turn things around,” she said. After that play, the offense began to find its rhythm.
Reese also highlighted Junior Ava, who made a big impact during the game. “Ava came from an amazing basketball season straight to flag football. Once she was put in as a receiver, she was ready to ball out, scoring two touchdowns,” she said.
The team’s defense also played a huge role, shutting down Wesley Chapel and keeping them off the scoreboard. For Reese, the team’s environment is what makes them special. “This team is like a big family. Everyone supports each other, and that positive environment really helps us succeed,” she said.
Reese believes the team will keep improving. “We’ve come so far in just three weeks, and we’re definitely going to be a team to watch out for.”
