Homecoming dance is the celebration of students coming back to school. Months before the event itself, students like junior Sofia Perez begin their preparations. Sofia said, “I’ve been preparing since July trying to find the perfect dress, making sure I get good plans for before and after HOCO.” A big part of Homecoming traditions is the proposals, which involves the fancy and creative boards that everyone hopes to get. Sofia had the opportunity this year to help her sophomore friend, Nick Shwartz, create a proposal board for someone else. While helping a friend with a proposal, she had also gotten asked to Homecoming but politely turned them down because she wanted to just go with her friends this year.
Everyone has different things they want to be perfect for Homecoming, whether that it is their outfit, hair, or makeup. When asked about what the most important thing for her Homecoming look is, she said, “I am making sure to get a nice tan, so I do not look pale in pictures. I think being tan is more important than my nails or makeup.” As the days count down to the big event, students like Sofia are making sure every detail is just right—from the dress to the perfect tan—all in anticipation of a memorable homecoming celebration.
