If there is one sport at Sunlake that knows how to represent the Seahawks the best, it is the girls’ soccer team. There are so many talented players, which really helps strengthen the team for tough and exciting games. Each girl on the team has a special place in their heart for the sport. Freshman Kayla Bays expressed how she has had a love for soccer for a very long time and shares that “…I have been playing soccer for twelve years.” Playing the sport now is very special to her because it brings back memories for her. “When I was little, me and my dad would go in the backyard and pass the ball around for hours until it was dark outside, ” said Kayla. Now, being on the Sunlake team has given her even more great memories from soccer. Kayla said, “…being part of this team has really impacted me by giving me new and strong friendships with the girls and seeing how supportive everyone is.” She is proud of what the team has achieved so far, especially at the Champions League finals. She said that, “…it was so fun and exciting to play in the Rowdies stadium with all my friends.” The girls fought hard and ended up beating their opponents, Palm Harbor, with a score of 3-1. This win was definitely a good way for the team to start off their district playoffs. The whole school will be cheering them on every step of the way while they keep advancing their way to states, where they will hopefully achieve their goal and bring home a Seahawk victory!
