Jorge Alfredo Carballo Rogers is three months into his senior year at Sunlake High School. During this time, he has spent many days hanging out with friends both in and out of school, forming new connections with people he hadn’t met before. This year, however, has also been a period of reflection and planning. Like many other seniors, Jorge is already thinking ahead to what comes after graduation and how he can prepare for the next chapter in his life.
Recently, Sunlake High hosted a college fair that brought together advisors from a wide range of colleges and universities. The purpose of the event was to help students explore different academic paths and decide which school would be the best fit for their goals and interests. Jorge had already been considering college options before attending the fair. He explained that the University of South Florida (USF) stood out to him because it offers a strong Business program that aligns perfectly with his interests. He also mentioned that, with the help of the Bright Futures program, a Florida-based scholarship program, he would be able to cover tuition costs and pursue his academic ambitions with confidence.

At the college fair, Jorge took the opportunity to explore a variety of schools, both in-state and out-of-state, gathering as much information as he could. Despite all the appealing options, he said that USF continued to be his top choice. He had heard many positive things about the university from friends and teachers, and he believes that USF will provide the right environment to help him earn his degree and build a successful future in business. His determination to achieve his goals and his willingness to prepare for the future reflect the mindset of a student ready to take the next step in his educational journey.
