Felix Vasquez, a senior here at Sunlake, went to the recent college fair. His goal is to attend medical school, so he knows that choosing the right undergraduate college is a crucial first step. The college fair presented him with an opportunity to research which schools might be the best fit and which could serve as reliable back-up options.
During the event, Felix went to visit several different college booths. There, he would ask each representative about their institution’s main areas of academic focus and whether their college featured internships. He visited booths for “Advent Health, Flagler, Keiser University, Pasco Hernandez, NSU, and Florida Southern College,” all of which had something different to offer him.
Of all the schools he learned about, Advent Health stood out to Felix the most. The college offers a program designed to help students enter medical school a year earlier than usual, which immediately caught his attention. This made Advent Health a top contender on his list. Still, he is weighing his options carefully and is also seriously considering USF, known for its strong pre-medical curriculum and resources.
Felix said that he found the college fair an enjoyable experience since, “I got to meet a lot of new people from these colleges.” The event not only introduced him to new possibilities but also helped him narrow down his choices to two excellent options. Felix now has a better sense of what to look for in searching for a college, such as internship programs and smaller class sizes, which would allow him to seek guidance from his professors more easily. In addition to specific program details, Felix learned about what factors to consider when making his final decision. The college fair gave him the tools and perspectives to move forward confidently in pursuit of the right college for his future in medicine.
