Matthew Garcia played an active role at Sunlake High School’s annual Trick or Treat Around the Track. As a member of the Key Club’s group at the event, Matthew was involved with helping to set up the club’s tent & musical chairs game for a successful evening. Some of the Key Club members were wearing their blue shirts, while others appeared in full costumes. All members, including Matthew, prepared a variety of activities for the young trick-or-treaters visiting the school.
The Key Club had planned several games for the kids. Matthew stated that Key Club’s “gonna have a bunch of games, candy to pass out, and have a good time.” While the Key Club tent was the closest to the entrance, on the other side of the track was musical chairs, which Matthew was helping out with. He made sure to keep the kids engaged and the music going with the other volunteers there. In addition to the games, the Key Club handed out candy to all the participants, making sure every child who visited their station left with a treat in their hands, regardless of a win or a loss.
Matthew believes the event was a success. Even before the event began, he said “I think it’s gonna go good. I mean, we’ve got some fun games and prize candy to pass out, I think they’re gonna like it.” The kids who visited the musical chairs game thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were especially excited about the candy he was handing out. The gratitude from both the children and their parents reinforced Matthew’s sense that the club’s efforts were appreciated and effective. Matthew had said in the interview that he “signed up for key club to help out the community and just have fun.” He was glad to be able to help others through volunteering and give others a nice experience here.
For Matthew, Trick or Treat Around the Track was about seeing cool costumes, hanging out with friends, and most importantly, creating joyful activities for the children who came to visit. Matthew said that he “signed up for key club to help out the community and just have fun.” He was glad to be able to help others through volunteering and give others a nice experience here.
