This week, Sunlake High school held one of their National Honors Society meetings! One of our senior’s, Meghan Wimbley, who has been a member for two years now, decided to talk to us about this meeting. So first of all, what is National Honors Society (NHS), NHS is a high school organization that recognizes students for achievements. This year, for Sunlake our biggest goal is to give

students volunteering opportunities and hours, NHS encourages students to achieve good grades and stay active as far as community service. They particularly trying to get them to participate in the blood drive, because NHS sponsors this event. Meghan was asked how NHS could prepare or help her for college, she states, “National Honors Society can look really good on my college applications, because it shows admissions officers that I have been recognized at Sunlake for my academic status. Me volunteering also helps to show the admissions officers that I help around my community.” Another thing is that Sunlake’s NHS has a partnership with the Joshua House, NHS has been donating and helping Joshua House for as long as Meghan has been apart of this club. From what Meghan knows, is that you have to have at least a 3.2 GPA, with a rigorous course schedule, and outside extracurriculars. If you meet these requirements, you will be emailed from your school email with an invitation, and if you accept the invitation, you will be required to attend the NHS induction ceremony where you are officially inducted as an NHS member. If you even want to take an extra step, at the end of the year, they have the upcoming seniors prepare a speech for the positions they have available. For example, like the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Other than that National Honors Society can really help out students to be successful, they preach for students success, and if you get offered this chance to join. You one thousand percent should.
