Picture Day at Sunlake High brought out a mix of nerves, excitement, and creativity across campus, but for sophomore Jaya Veerapen, a thoughtful and artistic sophomore, the day was more fun than stressful. Jaya who enjoys drawing, writing, and baking, came prepared with a carefully selected outfit and a positive attitude toward the annual tradition.
When asked about how the photo turned out, Jaya gave an honest and relatable answer. “I couldn’t say it turned out the best, but I’ve seen worse,” she said with a small laugh. She added that she felt she looked “a bit too bold” in the photo, though not in a way that ruined the moment.
Jaya put real effort into choosing her Picture Day outfit. “I thought my outfit was pretty decent,” she explained. “I had it picked out from the day before to make sure my shirt looked perfect, I even did my hair special for the occasion.” Her preparation helped her feel confident and ready when her turn came.
While many students think of Picture Day as long lines and quick awkward smiles at the camera, Jaya found joy in the moments around the process. Walking from class to the photo area was more enjoyable than expected. “Actually, I think the best part is going with your friends,” she said. “Everyone just seems energetic about getting their photo taken.”
That shared excitement ended up being Jaya’s favorite part of the entire experience. “It’s nice to see everyone excited,” she said. “Especially when people are usually so serious during classes.”
For Jaya Veerapen, Picture Day wasn’t just about getting a great photo—it was a refreshing break in the routine, a chance to enjoy time with friends, and a reminder that even small school traditions can bring people together.
