Sunlake’s Hispanic Honor Society is a club with a strong dedication to the Hispanic community, providing students with opportunities to engage with and learn about Spanish language and culture. The club encourages participation from all students who are interested in growing knowledge regarding the Spanish language and cultural understanding.
The Hispanic Honor Society held a meeting last month on the 6th of November, which served as an induction ceremony for new members joining the club this year. Including the newcomers this year, the club has now grown to over 60 members. The induction ceremony featured a party with food and cake that both new and old members enjoyed.
For many, joining the Hispanic Honor Society is motivated by the desire to be part of a community that values cultural exchange and learning. One member, Alexander Cage, shared that his personal reason for joining was to connect with others in the Hispanic community and to gain a deeper appreciation for both the culture and the language. Being surrounded by peers who share a similar interest in Spanish customs provides an environment that fosters educational growth.
The club also plays an active role in supporting students academically. The Hispanic Honor Society hosts weekly tutoring sessions that newcomers, Spanish 1, and Spanish 2 students can partake in. If you or someone you know wants to learn Spanish, make an appointment with Ms. Hoch and drop by room 3-113 any Monday after school! Tutors will be there to help you between 1:50 and 2:20 and can help you if you’re struggling. While information about additional upcoming events is currently unavailable, the consistent tutoring sessions demonstrate the club’s commitment to providing continuous support to its members and to the broader student community.
Overall, our Hispanic Honor Society here at Sunlake stands out as a club that not only celebrates Hispanic heritage and culture but also actively works to build a supportive community for students. Highly recommended for those interested or wanting to be involved in a community about Hispanic culture and customs.
