Serafima Chebotareva is in her final year at Sunlake Highschool, and is looking forward as to what unfolds in the near future and beyond. She is the founder, and president of Sunlake’s Biology Honors Club, through this she knows many active members and aids in tutoring some of the underclassmen in biology. Biology is one of Serafima’ s favorite subjects at school, however she does hold this same compassion for other subjects as well, she describes how much she enjoys APES Criminology, Business Administration, and Health Sciences, and is also interested in nursing related topics. Moving outside of science Serafima shares a passion for music, she has been playing piano for eight years and is very diligent on playing. Despite her immensely packed schedule Serafima will always try to squeeze in piano between grace periods. When asked if Biology and science was always her favorite, she remembers not being as interested in biology and instead seeing herself being more interested in chemistry or physics, however once she took a biology class her viewpoint has changed and thoroughly enjoyed it, “the complex topics, the memorization, and just how life works all started making sense to me.” Moving back into her academic life, Serafima describes the environment in the Biology Honors Club is very positive, and how much she enjoys working with the students and staff to aid in growing the club further, and appreciates her sponsors (Ms. Janess and Mrs. Yowell) for being amazing and supportive. She also shares this sentiment for the staff altogether. She aims to create a fun, welcoming environment where people can ask questions, and also enjoy their time learning and having fun and collaborating with their peers. When asked of what she is interested in doing as after she graduates, Serafima shares that she is still deciding between both the medical field and law, if she is to go into law she wants to go into a law school and focus on medical malpractice, the other route is dentistry or anesthesiologist. As for what the Biology club does, they host participation labs and also provide the aforementioned tutoring for underclassmen, and are active in various volunteering opportunities. Serafima Chebotareva also added that they plan to start doing drives and support local hospitals or shelters as well as bring in any guest speakers to talk about their careers in Biology and healthcare. As of right now they hold officer elections which are coming up, this role is to provide a strong leadership team for the rest of the year, later year the club plans on an induction ceremony for January, the are currently using their time now for volunteering options and preparing future events.
