As the girls basketball season continues at Sunlake High School, one name that has been standing out is freshman Aliyah Halperin. As a 9th grader, Aliyah has already shown confidence, dedication, and a deep love for the game, helping make this season a memorable one for the team.
Aliyah feels optimistic about what lies ahead. “I think that the season will continue to go really great!” she shared, reflecting the positive energy surrounding the team. That confidence comes from strong performances early in the season and the bond the players have built both on and off the court.
One of the highlights for Aliyah has been taking on tough competition and coming out on top. “The best thing that has happened this season has been defeating some undefeated teams and all the bus rides home after,” she said. Those wins not only boosted the team’s record, but also strengthened team chemistry, turning long bus rides into moments of celebration and connection.
The season started strong, setting the tone for what was to come. “The first game was great, and we won it, AND we played great defense which is

one of the things we are known for,” Aliyah explained. Defense has been a key part of Sunlake’s identity this year, and Aliyah has embraced that role, contributing hustle, focus, and determination every time she steps on the court.
Basketball has been a major part of Aliyah’s life for years. “I’ve been playing basketball since I was 6th years old and I love it,” she said. That long-term passion is clear in the way she plays with heart, effort, and a strong understanding of the game, especially impressive for a freshman adjusting to the high school level.
As the season moves forward, Aliyah Halperin continues to grow as a player and teammate. With big wins already behind them and high hopes ahead, Aliyah and the Sunlake girls basketball team are proving that hard work, strong defense, and team spirit can make a season truly special.
