During this four-day school week before having a day off from Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Adalie Gummoe; Freshman, rounded off all the work she could before her family trip to Colorado.
On Tuesday, the night of Sunlake hosting their first ever Curriculum Night, she decided to volunteer on campus for Key Club. She helped direct parents with kids from all of our feeder pattern elementary and middle schools and did a great job handing out flyers to visiting families. When asked about how she felt volunteering that night, she replied, “I liked it, I always enjoyed volunteering and helping people navigate the school. It felt good knowing that I was being helpful and making things easier for others.” She continues and details how her brother and friends were also volunteering that same night, making tasks not only easier but also fun as well. She says, “I also liked hanging out with the other volunteers and teachers that were there. I decided I would stay the full three hours of that event, visiting teachers with my brother Tanner that were also there like Mr. Southwick.”

After her week of finishing schoolwork and being able to volunteer, Adalie and her family got to travel outside the state for a short vacation, a well-needed break from school. Even though she only stayed in Colorado for 3 days, she and her family got to do all sorts of fun activities like snowmobiling, skiing, and shopping. While riding the snowmobiles, she got to experience wondrous sightseeing, traveling all over the mountainous ranges.
During her visit, she said, “There was also a small town named Beaver Creek near our hotel that had a nice ice-skating rink as well as mountains nearby and many restaurants and shops.” At their cabin, their family had an indoor fireplace, perfect for having smores and relaxing.
Overall, the short trip was a memorable one, a great way for Adalie and her family to spend quality time together after a week of school and work.
