Being a sophomore at Sunlake High School keeps Mia Tontini very busy, and this week showed how busy it could get. Between weightlifting, musical rehearsals, schoolwork, and time with friends, her schedule stayed full. Even though it was exhausting at times, she enjoyed staying active and involved.
On Monday, Mia began the week with a heavy weightlifting workout. She focused on bench press, dumbbell bench, and incline exercises. She likes seeing herself get stronger and improve each week. “It’s tough, but I love seeing improvement.” After school, she helped at musical rehearsal by watching the actors sing and writing down cues. Later that evening, she spent time with friends and had dinner, which helped her relax after a long day. “Spending time with friends helps me relax after practice,” she said. Tuesday was centered on rehearsal and homework. Mia spent time observing cues, writing in scripts, and making sure everything was organized. After rehearsal, she worked on her AP World homework and completed her reading packet. Lunch with friends gave her a break during the school day and helped her stay motivated.
Wednesday was exciting because of the Cypress Creek Weightlifting Conference. Mia helped by entering scores on the computers while the team competed. Sunlake placed first among the East Pasco schools, which made her proud to be part of the team. “Supporting my teammates is important to me,” she said when they won. She celebrated afterward with a small treat. On Thursday, Mia attended pre meet practice and worked on snatch and clean and jerk lifts along with hex bar deadlifts. She later returned to musical rehearsal to watch cues and blocking. The day ended with dinner out with her family. Friday wrapped up the week with more rehearsal, finishing homework, and watching a movie with a friend. Even with a busy schedule, Mia enjoys balancing school, sports, and friendships. This week reminded her how fun it can be to stay involved and make the most of high school.
