Sunlake Theatre took place in a performance and competition this December. The members were able to show off their acting and singing abilities in front of other schools and judges. Senior, Bryce Ford who is a theater veteran participated in this event. He has a preference for acting over singing and has been involved in drama at Sunlake since his freshman year. Even before this, he “…was in productions in middle school” right down the street at Rushe. Bryce has participated in many different productions throughout his career including “All in the Timing, Pippin, Steel Magnolias,” and more.
His favorite that he partook in was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which was written by Shakespeare about loving someone’s personality over their appearance. It was his favorite production because he was able “…to work closely with friends…”
Not only is theater a fun way to express talent through creative performance, the productions also teach good moral lessons. For example, in Bryce’s favorite production, the story enforced the idea that people should be loved for who they are, not what they look like. Ideas like this are very important and the thespians are able to have fun, entertain, and teach other people strong morals. At the event in December specifically, Bryce performed two contrasting monologues on the stage. With his contribution, Sunlake did very well, receiving “…three scholarships, three Critics’ Choice awards, nine Superiors, and a bunch of Excellents.” Of the three scholarships, this senior was on the receiving end of it. These awards were all presented to very talented actors and singers at the event. Luckily Bryce’s scholarship will be of benefit to him because he plans to pursue acting as a career. His dream is “…to go to a school to study acting and become a professional actor.” With all of his experience in the many years of acting, he has a great future ahead of him in his dream career.
