With the 2025-2026 school year already halfway done, plenty of students across Pasco County, specifically 8th graders, are already looking into their options for higher education. Sunlake High is known for their many clubs and academies, and plenty of the courses and programs are what entice kids to attend the school. Last week, January 13th, was Curriculum Night, which featured a multitude of Sunlake’s most well-renowned programs and allowed visitors to see what they found interesting. Mary Reyes; Sophomore, took part in one of the few performances put on that evening. “We were promoting the marching band,” she stated, “and did so by performing some of the stand tunes we play at football games.” Stand tunes are the short, familiar, and energetic songs that are often played at sports events and pep rallies.
Mary expressed that she really enjoyed participating in the Curriculum Night demonstration, as she always loves taking part in marching band activities. “We didn’t have much time to interact with people there,” she informed, “since we were the last to perform.” Despite not talking to any of the spectators, Mary feels confident that members of the crowd were at the very least intrigued by what marching band has to offer. While she was highly appreciative of the opportunity to represent her beloved music program, she also commented how she wished the drama club, another group she is affiliated with, had done something to recruit new members as well.
Furthermore, Mary believes that it’s important to have displays like Curriculum Night in order to inspire students when it comes to school searching. She remarked, “The reason I’m at Sunlake High School is because of their arts program. A lot of students pick schools based on the activities that the school offers. Being able to see the activities and interact with student participating in them can help one decide.”
