The Mu Alpha Theta club is a math club that lets students have fun while doing math and practicing skills for classes. At the last meeting before Winter Break, the members split into groups and solved math problems for an escape room. One member that was working out these tough problems was Anushka Urs; Junior. When commenting on the task for the Holiday meeting she said, “There were around 18 questions on the walls that we had to figure out, and we had to get all of them right to ‘escape’.” During the club, everyone got to enjoy festive treats and candy canes after they finally finished the problems.
There are many reasons to join a club in high school. Anushka made the decision to join Mu Alpha Theta last year. She had heard many positive things about this club and how interesting it could be. Anushka stated, “I’d say my favorite part of the club is how lively it is and how we are always doing something fun. The officers definitely put hard work into the club to make sure it stays interesting and enjoyable.” A positive reason to join is also that they meet on the first Thursday of each month. This results in quality meetings for this academic club and allows more people to join as it doesn’t take up a large portion of one’s schedule.
It is very important to find clubs that you can enjoy, meet new people at, and have unique experiences. Anushka has many friends in the club that joined her escape room group. One thing she praised was the officers for the club and the sponsor. She said, “I really like all the officers we have; they are all nice people and fun to be around. The sponsor, Ms. Camper, is in my opinion the best person for the club. She is probably the best math teacher I’ve seen at this school, and I think she’s the best teacher to be the sponsor for this club” Overall, Anushka really enjoys this club and had a blast before break.
