Mu Alpha Theta is known for their helpful tutoring and vast knowledge on the subject many kids consider to be the hardest of the main subjects. Mathematics. However, the members of the club took a much needed break and celebrated the Christmas season by going on a themed scavenger hunt that involved simple algebra and geometry problems.
Alex Whitman; Senior, the president of the club, played the role of Santa Claus. The members of the club had to put together a code in order to save Santa. Alex said, “The point of the meeting was to get everyone in the holiday spirit and excited for the break.” Their festive themed activity left everyone feeling ready to enjoy Christmas with their friends and family.

The kind of math equations done during the game revolved around factoring and simple logarithms. Alex mentioned, “We try and use a relatively familiar part of math that everyone can relate to. This is important as many parts of algebra and geometry can also be applied to higher level concepts like calculus.” Alex and the other heads of the club clearly care about the members and their success when it comes to higher grade level subjects. They even managed to make it fun by using a scavenger hunt!
Alex had a few takeaways after the meeting was over. “Personally, our last meeting was honestly one of my favorites… it had everyone participating equally. I feel as if everyone had their fair share of different approaches to each problem in the scavenger hunt, allowing them to apply the concepts they learned in class.” Mu Alpha Theta’s true goal is absolutely the growth of it’s members. It’s a clear sign that the club is very caring and supportive of everyone in it.
