For Mateo Jaimes, joining the Hispanic Honor Society wasn’t just another extracurricular activity, it was a chance to strengthen bonds, celebrate identity, and share the vibrancy of his culture with others. Looking back on the group’s first meeting, Mateo describes it with a smile: “The first meeting was very good.” From the moment he walked in, he knew he was exactly where he was meant to be.
Mateo joined the Hispanic Honor Society with a clear purpose. Surrounded by friends who share similar backgrounds and traditions, he found a space that felt grounding and familiar. “I wanted to be with my Hispanic friends and wanted to spread my culture. that’s why I joined,” he explains. For him, the club isn’t just about academic recognition; it’s about pride, community, and representation.
During the meeting, members talked about what they had learned so far, everything from cultural traditions to current events in Spanish speaking countries. Mateo appreciated how the discussions allowed everyone to connect more deeply, not only with each other but with their collective heritage. “We talked about what we learned so far,” he recalls, highlighting the group’s collaborative spirit and shared curiosity.
Out of all the activities and conversations, one thing stands out most for Mateo: the feeling of cultural connection. “My favorite thing is to be connected with my culture,” he says, emphasizing how important it is to him to honor and celebrate where he comes from. In the Hispanic Honor Society, he’s found more than a club,

he’s found a place where he can express himself fully and proudly.
As the year continues, Mateo hopes to keep spreading cultural awareness and building friendships. With students like him leading the way, the Hispanic Honor Society continues to embody unity, pride, and the beauty of shared heritage.
